Sliding sash windows reflect the appearance of a traditionally wooden architectural feature, often found in houses of the Victorian and Georgian era and very likely of British invention (an improvement on an early thirteenth or fourteenth Century French design). Traditional problems with wooden sash windows include rot, swelling or distortion of the woodwork and rattling in the wind (due to shrinkage of the wood).
Unlike these wooden installations our PVC-U sliding sashes incorporate high levels of modern performance and durability, overcoming many of the original shortcomings ― minimising the need for regular maintenance and dramatically increasing energy efficiency.
Sliding sash windows consist of at least two individual panes which can be fitted either sliding up and down or in a fixed position (any combination of these is possible as per customer demand). Like our other products, sliding sash windows can be bespoke tailored with a variety of glazes and furnishings to ensure their harmony with existing property features, ideal for the customer wishing to maintain the traditional aesthetic appearance of their home without sacrificing on contemporary security, warmth and longevity.
Another significant advantage of sash windows is their ability to provide efficient cooling of interiors during warm weather. Opening both the top and bottom of a sash window by equal amounts allows warm air at the top of the room to escape, thus drawing relatively cool air from outside into the room through the bottom opening. It is also possible to clean all the glass from within the building by sliding the two panes to different positions.
